A Courtesy Visit To Baba Olusi

Friday, January 10th, 2025, will be remembered as a significant day in Lagos, marked by a heartfelt reunion of the Ansar-u-Deen School Old Set from 1955. This gathering was held in honor of one of their most esteemed members, affectionately known as Baba Olusi, who has long been celebrated for his deep love of history, particularly the rich royal heritage of Lagos.

Baba Olusi is not only revered for his extensive knowledge of Lagos history but for his remarkable storytelling ability, reminiscent of Herodotus, the Father of History. He has meticulously chronicled the narrative of our ancestors, capturing the triumphs, struggles, and invaluable lessons learned throughout the ages, with a particular emphasis on the royal houses of Lagos.

During the gathering, Baba Olusi shared a poignant reflection: “The best mirror in my life is my old friend. They are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible for me to forget.” He expressed that his old school friends were the family he chose for himself, illustrating the profound emotional and social benefits that such friendships provide. The shared memories, mutual experiences, and inside jokes from their formative years create a bond steeped in nostalgia and comfort.

Coinciding with this reunion was a courtesy visit from Prince Oluwasegun Ojora of the Ojora Oyegbemi Royal House. The prince values his relationship with Baba Olusi, recognizing the elder’s significant contributions to the history of Lagos State. During this visit, Baba Olusi took the opportunity to introduce the prince to his Ansar-u-Deen old schoolmates, who collectively offered prayers for his continued success. And also for his political son, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu who later presents in the meeting.

Additionally, Baba Olusi seized the moment to discuss an upcoming program organized by Royal Circle Connect Oba’s Media, specifically designed for the APC Chairmanship aspirants in light of the forthcoming elections. He emphasized the importance of their participation, stating that this program would serve as a vital platform for Lagos residents to learn about the aspirants and their agendas, fostering transparency and engagement ahead of the chairmanship election.

In conclusion, the reunion not only celebrated enduring friendships but also highlighted the crucial intersection of history, community, and civic responsibility. Baba Olusi’s legacy as a historian and storyteller continues to inspire both the old sets of Ansar-u-Deen School and the broader Lagos community.
