The Ojora Royal Family, in collaboration with other royal families in Lagos State and the good people of Lagos, formally laid to rest Otunba Chief Isiaka Adekunle Ojora, the revered Olórí Ẹbí of the Ojora Royal Family, in a series of dignified and culturally rich final rites.
Widely respected in Lagos State and across the diaspora, the Ojora Royal Family is renowned for its deep commitment to culture, tradition, faith, and communal values. In honour of the late Otunba Isiaka Adekunle Ojora, the family organized comprehensive funeral rites held across four significant locations, reflecting the diverse beliefs, philosophy, and life principles upheld by the deceased.
1. Oba Ojora’s Palace, Ojora Kingdom
Otunba Isiaka Adekunle Ojora, an indigenous son of the Ojora Kingdom, was firmly rooted in the Ìṣẹ̀ṣe traditional belief system of his ancestry. Traditional rites were performed at Oba Ojora’s Palace in accordance with the customs of the land.
The rites were conducted by the Ẹlẹ́gbà Ẹjiwà Ojora traditional team, led by Chief Esugbayi Ojora, the Ẹjúrè of the Ojora Kingdom. The cultural ensemble rendered sacred chants and traditional songs, celebrating the transition of the late royal patriarch and honouring his enduring legacy as Olórí Ẹbí.
2. Olówọ̀ngbọ̀wọ̀ (Lagos Island)
A prominent social figure and proud islander, the late Otunba Isiak Adekunle Ojora maintained strong ties with the indigenous people of Lagos Island. In recognition of this bond, residents of Olówọ̀ngbọ̀wọ̀ gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects.
The event was marked by heartfelt tributes, as the community celebrated the life, influence, and contributions of their son and father figure, acknowledging his lasting impact on social and communal life.
3. Lagos Central Mosque
In addition to his traditional heritage, the late Otunba Isiaka Adekunle Ojora was a devout Muslim and an active member of the Islamic community. In honour of his faith, a special prayer session (Ṣalāt al-Janāzah) was held at the Lagos Central Mosque.
Muslim clerics, faithfuls, and members of the Islamic community gathered to offer prayers for the repose of his soul, reflecting his commitment to religious devotion and peaceful coexistence.
4. Ikoyi Vault
Guided by his lifelong philosophy that humanity originates from the soil and ultimately returns to it, Otunba Isiaka Adekunle Ojora was laid to rest at the Ikoyi Vault.
The final interment was attended by members of the Ojora Royal Family, friends, well-wishers, traditional rulers, and prominent leaders. The ceremony was led by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside other distinguished state and national dignitaries.
